Fantastic turnout for Saturdays Allergy Update.
Top tips from Dr Savic in managing allergies:
1-Do not blanket test for allergies. A positive blood test may indicate the patient is sensitised and not allergic. Blood tests need to be interpreted in the context of history.
2-Introduce peanuts early to children, as part of normal weaning, to reduce the risk of them developing allergy to peanuts.
3-In most cases of eczema the cause is not food allergy.
4-Angioedema in adults is usually not due to an allergy.
5-In managing Chronic Urticaria you can use antihistamines up to 4 times the usual dose i.e fexofenadine 360mg bd
